Work + Play: What to Do Beyond Business in Brasília

On paper, business trips seem very glamorous. Who wouldn’t like to be paid to go to a new place and escape the office routine? However, sometimes there’s just too much work and we end up not being able to enjoy the destination beyond the (hopefully delicious) hotel breakfast. With a bit of luck and planning, you can definitely squeeze in some activities and visit a few very cool spots during your trip! Make it a bleisure trip!

Today we’ll talk about Brasília, the Brazilian capital district, which touts unique architecture, a beautiful sunset, and many fun places to discover.

Brasília’s main postcard destinations are pretty close to each other, so you can definitely escape and visit Brasília’s Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Congress and the Planalto Palace after work. All three locations are well lit, so you’re able to see and take pictures of each of them in the evenings as well! It’s worth it leaving some time on you schedule to visit this iconic work by famed Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer.

The TV Tower is also nearby, one of the few important sights in the city not designed by Niemeyer. The monument designed by Lúcio Costa has an observatory that offers stunning views of the city and is open between 9am and 7pm, perfect for a before or after work visit!

If you can, it’s definitely worth it going to work a little early to make it out just in time for the sunset. Brasília has an amazing sky, and at Ermida Dom Bosco you can see it in all its glory. The lake and colorful sky combo make for a picture perfect image that is well worth the trip. Besides, to get there you have to go through the Juscelino Kubitscheck Bridge, another one of Brasília’s postcard spots that looks even better at night!

If the modern buildings, interesting sights and the lovely sky aren’t enough, Brasília is also filled with restaurants and bars. There are options for all tastes and price points, and the best part is that there’s always time to visit one of them during lunch or dinner! If you have a more refined palate and enjoy fine dining, Bloco C is the place to be. The dishes here are inspired by Brasília, and the executive menu during lunch, allows you to taste some of the menu at a fixed price. If you are looking for something a bit more casual, however, Páprica Burger would be a great choice. With many options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike, the place is sure to please all sorts of guests (especially considering their tasty milkshakes)!

As you can see, it’s definitely possible to see a little bit of your destination even with a busy work schedule! Saving some time during the day to visit some fun spots is very rewarding and if you can’t see all of them, it’s all the more reason to come back for leisure!
